Natalia Lafourcade has won eight Latin Grammys, including three for the song Hasta la Raíz, which won the 2015 Song of the Year and Record of the Year, as well as Best Alternative Song. In this episode, Natalia breaks down the writing and recording process for the track, which borrows from a traditional Mexican folk music called huapango, but also still includes a Juno synthesizer and a pop sensibility.

The Arcs is a new band from Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, along with Richard Swift, Leon Michels, Homer Steinweiss, and Nick Movshon. In this episode, Dan, Richard, and Leon break down the song “Put a Flower in Your Pocket” from their debut album Yours, Dreamily. They talk about how the song grew out of a single guitar line played by their friend and Country session musician Russ Pahl, and how they combined vintage gear with modern recording techniques to craft their sound.
